The company they founded, BioNTech, focuses on mRNA technology. One researcher who has been intensively involved in this field for some time is the Hungarian Katalin Karikó; Ugur Şahin brought her to BioNTech a few years ago. The "m" in mRNA stands for "messenger," and RNA for ribonucleic acid. mRNA transmits the information for the production of an antigen to our cellular machinery, which produces proteins.
