Andrej Medvedev is the first Wagner Group mercenary who fought for Russia in Ukraine and fled to the West. He now lives in Oslo, is applying for political asylum, and says he wants to “find peace”. But he himself stands in the way of his integration in Norway, because despite his escape from Putin’s realm, Andrej remains a staunch Russian patriot. He has renounced Wagner and the war, but whether he will ever be able to leave his inner Russia behind is completely uncertain.
