Thimios Bakatakis, born in 1970 in Athens, Greece, is a Greek cinematographer known for his work with director Yorgos Lanthimos. A graduate of the Hellenic Cinema and Television School Stavrakos. Like most of Lanthimos’ collaborators, Bakatakis knew him from a commercial advertising agency in the 1990s. He shot all Lanthimos’ films before The Favourite (2018), including Kinetta (2005), Dogtooth (2009), Alps (2011), and The Lobster (2015), each with a distinct visual style. His work extends to films like Attenberg (2010), Blind (2014), and Porfirio (2011), plus music videos and commercials. He also works as a theater lighting designer. Bakatakis received an Independent Spirit Award nomination for The Killing of a Sacred Deer (2017) and contributed to Dogtooth’s Un Certain Regard win at Cannes 2009. He emphasizes unique shooting styles for each project.
