Austrian film producer David Oliver and his company Berliner Oliver-Film GmbH are one of the foundations of Germany's legendary UFA Studios that were created in November 1917. He produced over 200 silent films, and once controlled a European cinema empire that stretched from Budapest to Amsterdam. In 1934, after a Berlin bomb attack by Nazi assassins, he had to flee Germany and emigrated to Spain and later to the UK.
