Cecile van Welie was born on January 6th, 2002, in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. Her parents are of Dutch and Arab descent. At 8, she starred in her first play and continued her theater training until landing her first film role at 12. Ever since then, Cecile has pursued a career in film acting, working on multiple projects. Her first starring role as Sara in the Argentine-Dominican film Carajita (2021) earned her two acting nominations. The film is the first Dominican production to receive the Jury’s Special Mention (New Directors) at the San Sebastián International Film Festival. Cecile continues her acting career, recently filming her second lead role as Liz in the upcoming queer horror drama No Salgas. With her extensive training and decade-long experience, she continues to establish herself as one of her country’s most promising young talents.
