Alex Oakley (born August 12, 1973) is a first assistant director. He was born in Westminster, London, England. He began his career in the film industry in the late 1990s, with early roles such as floor runner on The Revengers' Comedies (1998), and gradually advanced through the assistant directing ranks. Throughout the 2000s, Oakley became a prolific assistant director with credits on major films. He worked as third assistant director on About a Boy (2002), second second assistant director on Love Actually (2003), and second assistant director on Hotel Rwanda (2004). In 2006, he served as second unit first assistant director on Children of Men, marking a key step in his career. From the late 2000s onwards, Oakley consistently held the role of first assistant director on a variety of notable productions. His credits include Nowhere Boy (2009), Johnny English Reborn (2011), A Cure for Wellness (2017), The Commuter (2018), Cruella (2021), Roald Dahl's Matilda the Musical (2022), The Union (2024), and Supergirl (2026). In addition to his directorial contributions, Oakley has also taken on production capacities. He is listed as an associate producer on Charlie's Angels (2019), Roald Dahl's Matilda the Musical (2022), and The Union (2024). Outside of his film credits, Oakley is based in London and serves as the principal of Oakley Productions Ltd, where he also acts as first assistant director. He is married to Sara Desmond.
